2024 SnowTrex Award: The most popular ski resorts and accommodations
In 2024, Germany’s leading winter tour operator SnowTrex will once again honour the most popular ski resorts and accommodation in winter sports resorts with the SnowTrex Award. Following the conclusion of the previous season, 80 accommodation providers and 69 top European ski resorts are now eligible to receive the esteemed SnowTrex Award. The award is based on the ratings of numerous SnowTrex customers. The winners of the 2024 SnowTrex Award can now be viewed online and will display the golden seal ‘Best Place to Ski’ or ‘Top Hotel’ on site.
The 2023/24 winter season was distinguished by exceptional meteorological and snow conditions that persisted for several months. This resulted in a sustained high level of customer interest in travel from SnowTrex. TravelTrex is pleased to announce that, before its 25th anniversary, it welcomed over 105,000 travellers. The primary factor influencing customer decisions regarding travel destinations is the reputation of a particular location, as reflected in the reviews of other travellers. SnowTrex has been analysing these data since 2013 at the end of the season. Based on the results, the most popular accommodation and ski resorts are awarded the SnowTrex Award. In 2024, 69 ski resorts and 80 hotels and apartments in five popular Alpine countries will be certified as ‘Best Place to Ski’ and ‘Top Hotel’.
Austria, Italy, and France shine with top destinations
In addition to numerous well-established ski resorts, the winners for 2024 also include accommodation in destinations that were either newly discovered or rediscovered by SnowTrex customers during the previous winter season. The ‘newcomer rate’ for hotels and apartments was also exceeding 24 per cent. Austria remains the most popular destination for ski holidaymakers, which include numerous favourites such as the ski resorts in the Zillertal, the Silvretta Arena in Ischgl and the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental. However, there are also some new discoveries, including the Obergurgl/Hochgurgl ski area in the Ötztal.
The popularity of Italian ski destinations remains high. These include well-established ski resorts such as the 3 Zinnen Dolomites, Gitschberg Jochtal-Brixen or Val di Fassa-Carezza in South Tyrol, as well as Livigno and Bormio, which are situated a little further east. Similarly, the winning ski resorts in France are a combination of long-standing favourites among SnowTrex customers, such as Les 3 Vallées, Les 2 Alpes, Galibier Thabor and Les Sybelles, and the newcomer Val d’Allos/Pra Loup. Destinations in two other Alpine countries also performed well. In Switzerland, in addition to the long-standing favourites of Arosa-Lenzerheide and Davos Klosters Mountains, Engelberg-Titlis and Flims-Laax-Falera also scored highly with customers. In Germany, as in previous years, the Garmisch-Classic, Zugspitze ski resort was the top choice.
Austrian accommodations, such as the Hotel Blü – bin so frei in Bad Hofgastein, the Berghotel Ehrenbachhöhe in Kitzbühel and the Hotel Grüner Baum in Zell am See have been consistently ranked among the top-performing hotels for several years. In Italy, the Dolomites Hotel Union in Toblach, the Hotel Bambi am Park in Sulden am Ortler and the Hotel Ginepro in Bormio are also among the most popular accommodation providers, particularly due to their commitment to guest comfort. The L’Orée des Pistes in Saint Sorlin and Les Alpages de Val Cenis in France have once again received excellent ratings due to their proximity to the slopes. The Hotel Bären in Interlaken and the Swisspeak Resort Meiringen in Switzerland are also among the favourites of SnowTrex customers. In Germany, the Gasthof Anötzlehen and the Hotel Neuhäusl in Berchtesgaden have also been well-received.
How the SnowTrex Awards are presented
At SnowTrex, we recognise the importance of addressing travellers’ accommodation preferences, as these are crucial considerations for our customers. The primary considerations that prospective guests make when selecting accommodation can be distilled into the following key questions: A key consideration when selecting accommodation is the level of cleanliness. The quality of the food on offer is also a crucial factor. Another important criterion is the suitability of the ski resort for beginners. To assist thousands of winter holidaymakers in making informed decisions about their ski destinations, these and other questions are included in a comprehensive questionnaire, which SnowTrex sends to all guests to complete after their trip. The responses are incorporated directly into the customer reviews and can be viewed in detail for every bookable holiday.
The customer ratings and recommendation rates, for example regarding service, catering, and accommodation facilities or the quality and additional services of the ski resort, form the basis for the SnowTrex Award, which is presented after the end of each season. To be eligible for the SnowTrex Award, a recommendation rate of at least 80 per cent (accommodation) or a rating of at least 8 out of 10 (ski resorts) is required.
